Schoenhut Toy Ticket Office

For the next few posts, I'd thought I'd focus on my
(small) collection of Schoenhut houses.

Technically, this little building isn't a dollhouse,
but fits well amongst my other little houses.
And I do mean little...it's just
6" X 9", so nothing really fits inside!
It was made sometime during the late teens
and into the early 20's. The exterior "brick"
pattern is embossed cardboard, as is the roof.

Little Mr. Caco, who is less than 4" high, is too tall to get through the door!

It's nice to have glass windows in the back so the Ticket Agent can look out.

The roof can be removed for play.

The chimney is missing, as well as the
"Ticket Office" sign that would have been attached
along the roof line.

Coming up next time: Another tiny Schoenhut dollhouse!

Kittie's Christmas 1892

Depending or your point of view; I'm either too late,
or too early, to be posting a Christmas image!
But since I collect Christmas ephemera
year round, I couldn't help but
post this unusual item that I
recently acquired.

The little girl offers a dead mouse and goldfish
to the mother cat. Hanging from
the tree branches are two more dead mice
and fish..presumably for the
two little kittens!

Happy Mother's Day

This morning, I wanted to take a few minutes
to wish everyone a
Happy Mother's Day,
as well as to pay a small tribute to my Mom, who
passed away in 1994 at the young age of 70.
I definitely inherited the
collecting gene from her! Her passion was glass,
but also loved dolls and miniatures. Even though I had
no interest in such things back then, she would be delighted
to know that  her only son is now collecting
dollhouses and miniatures!

After she died, I found this little
German dog on a shelf in her room. I had never
seen it before, but it came home with me, and has become
a prized possession ever since.
Last year, my sister miniaturized the above 1945 photo
of our Mom. Even though she intended it as a
piece of jewelry, it recently occurred to me
that it would make the perfect dollhouse picture!
So in memory of Mom,
her little dog will go back to reclining on the chaise,
and her photo will be hung
in a prominent place of honor
in one of my dollhouses.

The Caco Family Move-On-Up...

The Landlord has completed
(well almost, but not quite..) the re-decorating
of "The Birches".
The Caco Family was so anxious to
vacate their cramped two room cottage
that they moved in today, and now have plenty
of room to enjoy.

Enjoy the tour!

 The Entry Hall

Mrs. Caco is enjoying cooking in her
new oven. It even has a flip down lid to
cover the burners!

Listening to the latest news on the wireless.

The fully equipped bath.

Mrs. Caco isn't sure
that she likes these fine antiques in
the bedroom, and may
prefer something more practical in the future...

She is very excited to have her
very own dressing room.....

Oh, c'mon..you just knew there was
going to be a skeleton
in that closet didn't you?!!
